Common questions and answers

Being Audited?

There’s nothing quite like the fear a notice from the IRS arouses. Even though you know you’re an honest citizen who pays your taxes, just the thought of being audited brings feelings of paranoia.

At Hale Accounting, we understand. We’re ready and willing to represent you. We’ll do a trial run with you and tell you what items may be an issue so going into the audit you have an expected outcome. We’ll be there throughout the audit, and in many instances, you may not even have to deal with the IRS agent; we’ll do it for you.

Once the audit is complete, we can help you set up payment options if you are assessed additional taxes. We’ll also instruct you in the proper method of keeping your books and records to avoid future problems. We’ll give you advice about the tax laws applicable to your type of business and how you can stay in compliance.

Owe Taxes?

If you owe taxes, you know it affects all areas of your life, including whether you can purchase a home or get a job. Let the professionals at Hale Accounting help you resolve your tax debt.

Whether it’s setting up an installment agreement, submitting an Offer in Compromise, submitting an Innocent Spouse claim, getting penalties abated, or being placed in uncollectible status, our staff can help you. As former IRS agents, we understand the procedures and the lingo.

We won’t make false promises. We won’t say it will be painless. We won’t promise you pennies on the dollar. We will promise to help you resolve your tax problems in the best manner possible.

Need A Bookkeeper?

If you own a business, you know how important accurate books and records are to its success. Good financial statements let you know if you are making a profit and if you have internal control issues. They give you the information you need to make better business decisions and provide you with reports to give to your banker.

You might start out doing your own bookkeeping, but you might find it takes more time than you realized. You might spend more time learning software and doing bookkeeping than running your business. And if you don’t understand all of the taxes your business is responsible for you may fall behind and not file or pay the right taxes.

The staff at Hale Accounting can provide you with an independent, third-party review of your business, save the cost of software or paying a part-time or full-time staff member, save valuable office space for other areas of your business, and let you spend more time making money. Our full service bookkeeping provides financial reports and sales and payroll taxes (if applicable). We also provide payroll service, including printing checks and preparing tax deposits and returns.

Our costs are reasonable and our quality is exceptional.

Need Returns Prepared?

If you haven’t filed returns, the staff of Hale Accounting can assist you with current and prior years’ returns.

The IRS won’t file for you if they think you will receive a refund, but if they think you will owe taxes, they will file the return for you, giving you minimal exemptions and deductions. Then they will pursue collection activities, including liens, levies and seizure of assets.

We can help you correct returns the IRS files for you, or file original returns for you. Once the returns are filed, we can help you resolve your tax debt.

We keep up with the current tax laws through training and continuing education, and we purchase the most current and accurate software in the industry. We are staffed by Enrolled Agents and are licensed by the IRS to practice.

Need Financial and Business Consulting?

If you are planning to buy or sell a business, the staff of Hale Accounting can provide you with an accurate starting price for negotiations. We can assist you with the process and offer advice for expansion, and let you know if the current type of entity is right for you. We can help you plan to mitigate taxes through planning and investing strategies.

Our knowledgeable staff can also assist you with estate planning, so that you plan for your family’s future. If you never write your will, a large portion of your estate might be used by the State to pay for probate. Your family members might fight amongst themselves and cause hard feelings that end relationships. You might leave a large tax bill and all of your assets might have to be sold to pay it, leaving none of the wealth you’ve accumulated for your family.

We can also assist you with retirement planning, so that you can spend time enjoying your future, not worrying about money.
